Story

Shelly Baron

I share these details with you for only one reason… to give you hope, and the knowledge
that life can be good again.

This is my story… elsewhere on this site, many others have shared their stories… and right now, you are in the middle of living yours. When it comes to issues of addiction, it is important for you to know that you will write the remaining chapters… and that powerful tools are available to help you and your family.

Please understand that I had all the advantages growing up… a good home… loving parents… and a fine education. I earned a business degree from New York University, served in the United States Air Force, and received recognition in my career as a partner in a successful advertising firm. But addiction doesn’t discriminate… people of all ages, occupations, races, and religions can fall.

I had been introduced to the lifestyle of alcohol and drugs at seventeen… I thought I could handle it. I had been told these substances could be used safely… I became an addict. Drinking and drugging were part of my daily life. I smoked five packs of cigarettes per day, and also struggled with food addiction and gambling. I saw the “best” doctors… doctors who did not understand addiction… who kept me from getting the kind of help I needed.

By the age of thirty-seven, addiction had taken its toll on my career, my relationships, and my health. The partnership at my ad agency was over. My first wife had left me… as had my second… and my children barely knew me. My hands and body were misshapen from rheumatoid arthritis… and I had lost all my hair. At one hundred sixty-nine pounds overweight, my liver and kidneys were diseased.

Four teams of doctors examined me, and gave me six months to live… that was over three decades ago.

Yes, I have been where your son, your brother, your husband, or dad is right now… and I am here to tell you that they can recover. In my practice, I have successfuly treated thousands… yes, thousands… of patients who were where your daughter, your sister, your wife, or mom is at this very moment. Let me be very clear about this… your loved one can recover, you can have your family back… just as thousands of others have… just as I have.

And with recovery comes restoration.

Restoration of relationships… after two broken marriages, I met and married the love of my life… Maureen. We spent thirty-two wonderful years together, until her passing in 2004. Restoration of health… today I am in the physical shape of many men twenty years younger. And restoration of career… through extensive training and experience, I’ve been able to help over ninety percent of the addicts I consult with into recovery.

I encourage you… don’t let another day go by, wondering if you should do something. Many others have experienced what you are going through… you do not have to face this alone.
